I know that many well known businesses can make mistakes but this one really makes me think they're serious enough to make good products.
_______________
linux dedicated servers

Re: Cisco's Nexus 1000v and the Cloud: Is it really a big deal?

See! I am unfortunately unable to make VMWorld this year, but I'd love to get a demo sometime. Send me an email at jurquhart at yahoo dot com.

Re: Cisco's Nexus 1000v and the Cloud: Is it really a big deal?

James:

I am glad our announcements yesterday seem on target for you. So, to clarify, the Nexus 1000v switches are "stackable", or at least virtually stackable. This means that a single Nexus 1000v can span multiple physical servers. So, for example, you could have a single switching domain for a VI cluster.

If you swing by the booth, you can check out the demo.

Omar Sultan
Cisco

Re: Cisco's Nexus 1000v and the Cloud: Is it really a big deal?

James: You were at Cassatt? I was also myself, I worked in the MN office. I'm now at Cisco working on the Nexus 1000v. Glad to see you like what we've done so far.

Re: Cisco's Nexus 1000v and the Cloud: Is it really a big deal?

VN-Link is just the capacity to support persistent network services for a VM which can be achieved with either an nx5k or the nx1000v according to this Cisco VN-Link intro. Actual stacking capacity is still an open question--but the data sheet you link implies there is some ability to have the nx1000v span physical boxes (at least 2) and that that would be a prereq for maintaining network state after a vMotion move.
